Who We Are:
The Network, aka White Mountain GMRS is a diverse group of people in Northern central Arizona with the aim of providing communications to our communities in times of disasters such as natural hazards or human-instigated disasters.
What is GMRS??:
The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a land-mobile FM UHF radio service designed for two-way communication by direct (radio to radio) or using repeater stations and authorized under part 95 of 47 USC.
GMRS is NOT to be confused with amateur (HAM) radio even though many HAMS hold a GMRS radio license.
GMRS does not require a test as with amateur radio. A GMRS license only requires a $35 fee to the FCC and is good for a period of 10 years and can be renewed. Also the license callsign can be used by the entire family.

The problem with cellphones:
Cellphones are a convenient way to stay in touch with family and friends and offer a wide range of applications but cellphones are highly dependent on a functioning reliable RF data network. (4G and 5G) We all have issues of dropped calls calls not connecting etc... This is constant problem cellular users face in rural areas across the country.
GMRS Provides the following benefits
Voice Communications with family and friends
Event communications for civic or Church group
In addition to HAM radio, a reliable communications during emergencies
Radios are low-cost and are widely available
